Below are a couple of videos which expand on some the points raised above, in particular to show different ways that Soto Uke (outside block) and the opening sequence of Heian Nidan (Pinan Shodan) can be used. Another video is thrown in for good measure, which looks at a rather unusual sequence from the kata Nijushiho. There will be more short video’s like those below throughout the course to supplement the main classes.

Hi Said
I don’t really have a “style” in bunkai as such as I have a number of different influences. I would just recommend that you check out my Youtube channel at: http://www.youtube.com/user/bunkaijutsu
Dear Sir …
Please send me more infromation about your style in Bunkai
Hi Jimmy
Thanks for your comments and don’t worry, no offence is taken
As for Nijushiho, I think it really depends on your relative position to your opponent as to whether you shuffle in or not. Because you are holding the opponents head in this application you can’t get the normal hip rotation with the punch. I therefore use the shuffle to get the body-weight behind the technique. I believe that this will increase the power, even close in. But hey, part of the point of having these videos is to get some discussion going and we don’t have to agree on every aspect of every bunkai.
As for you comment about Heian Nidan, point taken, thank you.
hi, in nijushiho bunkai, in your kiba dachi with elbow strike (jodan empi or tate empi) after you do a yori ashi in the opponant, I know, in the kata we do that, but it’s just for the embusen, that’s it. we are already very very close , we dont have to move, cause if we move closer, the strike will be less effective, less power….
just my opinion…..
no offense
Hi, good stuff but just an advice.. in your heian nidan opening move, after the first movement bloc and strike in same time, your third technic (the tsuki ou tettsui) you bring back your back arm in hikite at your hip with nothing to pull, in real kata bunkai, NEVER we do hikite just for the ”fun”, everytime we have to grab something….
thanks
Hi Twila
