Bassai Dai Kata Bunkai

DVD:  Inside Bassai Dai by Charlie Wildish & Keith McKay Cormack.

No one alive today will ever know for sure what the intended bunkai was for the kata, Bassai Dai (believed to have been created by the legendary martial arts fanatic and genius, Sokon “Bushi” Matsumura.  However, by looking at the historical challenges that Matsumura faced , reading across from modern reality based martial arts and by looking at Chinese martial arts (which Matsumura would have studied); we set out to re-create as authentically as possible the original bunkai to one of the most important katas in the Karate world.  The result is not for scoring points or sorting out the odd street scuffle.  The result is hard brutal fighting applications to deal with some of the worst case scenarios that you could come up against in a street self defence scenario.

Improve Your Kicks

DVD:  10 Kicking Tips by Charlie Wildish.

Through this DVD I intend to enable and empower martial artists to improve all their kicks by focusing on and understanding the body mechanics and principles behind kicking rather than simply focusing on individual techniques.

Just to be clear, I don’t claim to have fantastic kicks as there are many out there who are better than me.  What I do claim is to have is the ability to break things down into fine detail, look at the nuts and bolts of how they actually work and then to explain them in a simple easy to follow manner.  Very often, just a very small adjustment or detail can lead to a big breakthrough in your ability.  This is where I can help you!

60 Day No-Quibble Guarantee

I’ll give a full no-quibble refund up to 60 days (from the date I post it) if you can honestly tell me that you did not learn anything useful from it.  I realise that some unscrupulous people will take advantage of this guarantee, but I’m relying on your integrity and honour as a martial artist.  All you have to do is return the DVD in its original case and providing it reaches me in good condition then I’ll refund you the full amount (minus the packing & postage cost).

I will also refund or replace your DVD if arrives damaged, but only if you inform me up to 10 days from the date I post it (you should know straight away if it arrives damaged).  I will however expect the DVD to be returned before the refund or replacement is actioned.

I have received the DVD’s and watched them a couple of times now. Your explanation in the kicking tips DVD on the mechanics of the kicking action is technically spot on and explained in easy to understand terms. Your comment about taking a small breath on the uplift was something I just had not even thought about. Good tip that one. The Bassai dai Bunkia DVD I also enjoyed. Sometimes I am guilty of over thinking the technique “which hand” is it a “cross grip or same side” so I like the idea that doesn’t matter which hand grabs where the just execute the technique and it if done correctly should render your opponent in a vulnerable position. Keith’s input from a Kungfu perspective is really interesting and re-enforces the validity of the principals underlying the kata’s practical application. Keep up the good work and I look forward to your next DVD production

    Hi,

The DVD’s arrived on Wednesday & I am glad I got them! I’ve only watched the Bassai Dai one so far but I found it very interesting & enjoyable. Bassai Dai is my current kata & your dvd is helping me make more sense of it.

To anyone reading this who is unsure – BUY IT!

    Thanks very much!

    Matt

    Hi Mark
I’m really glad that you enjoyed DVD’s, especially being with you being from TKD. Having said that, I agree that there is a lot of overlap between our styles. It is noticable that people like Iain Abernethy and Russell Stutely who do a lot of “alternative” applications, both get a number of students from both Karate and TKD. The 2 styles are much closer I think than many people realise.
    Thanks
    Charlie

Hello Charlie, I recieved my DVD’s the other day and wanted you to know that I thoroughly enjoyed them! I liked that you were using a lot of applications from the fence and keeping it real. As you know, I train in TAGB Taekwon-do and even though we obviously don’t practice Bassai Dai as part of our syllabus I discovered that a lot of the individual moves and applications from this DVD are applicable to the TKD student as some (not all) can be found in our patterns (TAGB TKD practices the chang hun tuls with hip twist instead of sine wave). This didn’t surprise me as General Choi the founder of Taekwon-do studied shotokan karate under none other than Gichin Funakoshi! So I think our styles have a lot in common. I got a lot out of the kicking DVD as well, again directly transferable to my TKD. So thank you (and Sifu Cormack – the kung fu perspective added another interesting layer!) for a very good resource all round!

    Hi Alex
Sorry to be ignorant, but I don’t know what “NTSC” stands for. However, I have sent DVD’s to the US and people have been able to play them.
    I hope this helps.
    Regards
    Charlie
PS: Please feel free to call me “Charlie” rather than “Sensei” :)

  8. Alex says:

    Sensei,

Do you have an NTSC version for dvd players in North America? Thanks.

    Alex

  9. admin says:

    Hi Nick
Yes, £1.50 will apply to Austrailia.
That may change latter as I get more organised, but for now it holds.
    Many thanks
    Charlie

  10. Nick Bennett says:

    Hi Sensei Charlie,
I would like to purchase your DVD but need to know if packing and post price of 1.50 includes delivery to Australia.
    Cheers
    Nick Bennett

  11. admin says:

    Hi Niel
Thank you for your inquiry. Yes I do deliver to US. Shipping is £1.50. All in, it is approximately $33.9.
However, I can’t guarantee that the PayPal currency converter will come out to exactly the same. Plus the exchange rate will fluctuate from day to day.
At present, I’m sorry but I can’t provide downloads. I’m using a WordPress.org blog, which only allows me to upload 8MB at a time, otherwise I would.
As we expand, I may look into finding another platform which will allow me to do so in the future.
    Regards
    Charlie
    :)

    Sensei Charlie,
How much is your dvd in American Dollars, and do you guys deliver to US, how much is shipping. Can I purchase a download instead? Thats what I do for most of Iain Abernathy’s.
